Evangelical Christians believe in the God revealed in the Bible - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and hold to the core message of the Gospel. They see these beliefs as central to what it means to follow Jesus, leading them to love others, serve people in practical ways, and share the good news with the world.
About us
We exist to serve individuals & churches in Ireland who share our distinctive beliefs.
These beliefs can be summed up in four primary characteristics.
The New Birth. We believe in the absolute necessity of a personal experience of Jesus Christ by which each person is born again by faith.
The Cross. Our beliefs and practices must be Christ focused. Christ’s atoning death upon the Cross is, and always will be, the defining event of human history.
The Bible. The Scriptures are the Word of God and are authoritative for Christian faith and practice.
The Gospel. Our experience of Jesus Christ necessarily involves us in proclaiming the message of salvation, both in word and by actions that reflect the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.
Our Statement of Faith
God - The only true God, holy, loving and glorious, who exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The sovereignty and grace of God in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
Scripture - The divine inspiration of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and their consequent entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.
Human dignity - The dignity and equality of all people, created in God’s image to live in love and holiness.
Human condition - The universal sinfulness, guilt and lostness of all people as a result of the Fall, making them subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
Jesus Christ: His person & work - Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, born of the virgin Mary; his sinless life, his substitutionary atoning death on the cross, his bodily resurrection, his ascension into heaven, his victorious reign and future return. He is the only mediator, and his sacrificial death the sole and all-sufficient ground of redemption from the guilt and power of sin and from its eternal consequences. By the grace of God alone through faith in Christ sinners are justified and receive the gift of eternal life.
The Holy Spirit - The convicting, regenerating, indwelling, illuminating, empowering and sanctifying work of God the Holy Spirit.
The Church - The universal Church of which Christ is the Head, expressed in local congregations of believers and committed to the proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel throughout the world. The priesthood of all believers and the divine institution of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Future Hope - The personal, visible and victorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory to establish fully his universal reign. His final judgement of all people with justice, bringing those who have rejected him to eternal punishment and believers to eternal life.
To God be praise forever. Moladh go deo le Dia.
Our Story
EAI was founded and officially launched in 2004 following a lengthy period of consultation by the founding members with church leaders throughout the country who sensed the need for a national body that could unite and represent evangelicals. In its early days, EAI’s focus was on encouraging Christians and churches to engage with one another and their communities at both local and national levels. Over the years EAI has served as a catalyst to launch other, somewhat independent, initiatives, for example – the C.S. Lewis Lecture Series, which seeks to present a Christian perspective on social issues, and Tirzah – an anti-human trafficking initiative. EAI has also hosted seminars on engaging with the media. In 2007 EAI published Votewise which outlined various issues which Christians should consider prior to casting their vote. Members of the EAI board were involved in the establishment of Vox magazine.
In more recent times, having established itself as a source of reasoned and thoughtful perspective on a range of issues, EAI has often been asked to contribute to conversations and discussions in the public sphere and media. It was one of a very small number of bodies asked to present its views and defence of a traditional understanding of marriage to the Convention on the Constitution. Today, our vision of seeing the power and values of the kingdom of God permeate every level of Irish society remains as strong as ever. We aim to do this in partnership with Christians and churches throughout Ireland by encouraging and equipping them to the extent that our own resources allow. We also endeavour to present an evangelical Christian perspective in the public sphere on issues of national importance.
EAI is a member of the European Evangelical Alliance and the World Evangelical Alliance and represents Ireland to the Lausanne Movement.
