Welcome
to Irish Evangelical Christians EAI Activities |
LinksTHE VISION OF EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE IRELAND is to contribute to the welfare of every sphere of Irish society through the liberating power of God’s kingdom. That kingdom represents a third way, an alternative to the power structures of an imposed religious tradition or (the mirror-image) of an imposed secularist one. Both represent power structures regarded with suspicion in contemporary society. In contrast, the kingdom announced by Jesus—‘the kingdom of heaven is in your midst’— is ‘power under’, not ‘power over’ people. God's kingdom is like Jesus and unlike world kingdoms. It is liberating, bringing people justice, hope, dignity and destiny.
EAI affirms that a worldview based on God’s kingdom is consistent with all reality, and thus engages with the sciences and arts, with the structures of society, with matters of justice and wellbeing, with questions of ultimate meaning and truth. Evangelicalism has been a well-established feature of Irish society for hundreds of years, yet is in a state of continuous renewal and change. It is expressed diversely both in denominations and in independent churches, in agencies focused on specific issues of injustice or sex-trafficking or poverty, in theological education, or in inter-church relations—many of which organisations are represented in EAI itself.
EAI is conscious of the momentous changes in Irish society that require not only a truly Christian response (that is, one rooted in the teachings of Jesus and his apostles), but a continual self-critical evaluation of our own diverse movement. For this reason EAI is open to dialogue with all elements of Irish society, secular or religious. |
